As of the date of the initial review of this cigar, I do not recall having any cigars by the, My Fathers Cigar Company and from what I’ve been hearing from others, this particular cigar is the top of the line from them.
My Fathers Cigar Company was founded by Jose Pepin Garcia and his family in Little Havana in 2003. Garcia was born in 1950 in Cuba and at just 11 years old, he started his cigar journey and started rolling cigars. Garcia was recognized as “Americas Hottest Cigar Maker” by Cigar Aficionado Magazine in 2008. Garcia’s son Jamie is also a cigar maker and their headquarters is operated by Garcia’s daughter.
Now, We get to this stick. The Le Bijon 1922 and I will say this, this cigar looks and smells absolutely fantastic. The banding on this stick is spectacular. I do love the thickness and overall feel of the banding. The use of Gold, Green and Red is used wisely. It is very festive. The name “Le Bijon” is a french word meaning, “The Jewel” and so far, its not a lie.
It has a wonderful dark chocolate brown Habano Oscuro wrapper and a robust mix of tobaccos from Nicaragua. The Aroma is quite pleasant. Notes of dark earth, figs and some slight blackberries. The dry draw was incredibly smooth producing the same notes as the aroma. SIDE NOTE: Later I found that this cigar went #1 Cigar of the Year – Cigar Aficionado Magazine 2015 with an impressive 97 rating.
As this cigar is first lit, there is an immediate burst of succulent flavors such as a creamy fresh leather, sweet milky cocoa and a hint of oak. The leather is a note that is typically found in Nicaraguan tobaccos. As the 2nd third starts, the leather is standing strong but there is a hint of dark sweet raisins that enters the mix and what a happy addition it is. Later on in the 2nd third, a slight note of salty almonds appears and these notes ride out through the final third with the flavor getting slightly bolder in strength.
This stick is fantastic, after the initial test, I smoked 2 more and got the same profile. I am truly in love with the Le Bijon 1922, I have since purchased 2 boxes. I can see why it went #1.
