As of now, I have only had a few cigars by Tatuaje and for the most part, they were pretty damned tasty. This stick I have today is a little smaller of a cigar than I would normally smoke. I do want to try this cigar in other sizes to see if there is in fact a difference in flavor but for now, the 4.75 X 52 is the one I will be trying for the initial review.
Although this cigar was created by Pete Johnson, it is made at the world famous, Pepin Garcia’s tabacalera, My Fathers Cigar S.A and if anyone has had a My Fathers cigar, you already know of the high standards and quality that comes out of their establishment.
This beautiful cigar has a Mexican San Andres wrapper which even beyond first glance is just absolutely stunning. It has a wonderful dark chocolate brown color and an aroma that will make one salivate by just opening the plastic sheath. It also has a binder from Nicaragua as well as the fillers are from Nicaragua. The aroma produces notes of stale straw and barnyard and the dry draw is phenomenal. Clean and clear with the same notes with a touch of sweet summer plums. Here is an interesting side note: The “1959” in the name of this cigar corresponds to the year that Robert Parker gave the Chateau La Mission Winery a 100 point rating.
When this cigar is first lit, there is a immediate blast of musty leather and about half way through the first third, some mild notes of blueberries and fresh cedar appears. Those notes added to the musty leather create a wonderful start to this stick. Just before the 2nd third appears, there is a faint note of wood chips which quickly disappears and is replaced with bakers chocolate and a touch of allspice. These notes remain strong and the cedar comes back as I get into the final third.
This cigar went #4 in Cigar Aficionado Magazine in 2020. I would definitely agree with that. Great Stick! I just put an order in for a box.
