Rocky Patel… A staple cigar in my humidors. I must start off by stating this: I am in NO way shape or form sponsored or endorsed by Rocky Patel, The Company or their affiliates. I have to state this due to the fact that every review I post of Rocky Patel is fantastic and I don’t want anyone to think that I am paid to write them. There is a few cigars by them that I am not a fan of and just for shits and gigs, I’ll name them now. Catch 22 both connecticut and Rothschild, The Strada, R4 and the Quarter Century just to name a few. Now that I’ve stated my piece, its time to move on to the ALR 2nd edition.

I want to start with the 2 piece banding. The lower band covers damn near half of the cigar and it is beautiful looking. White banding with what looks like copper and black font. And the upper band is a beautiful copper/rose gold color. The pair is probably the sexiest bands I’ve ever seen on a cigar. But what is more important to me is the flavor. I have had the 1st edition of this cigar and it was indeed a let down. Well, let me rephrase, it was good but not great.

The construction on this stick is flawless and I mean flawless. It has an array of well aged Nicaraguan tobaccos that is wrapped in a spectacular looking San Andres wrapper. The aroma is overwhelmingly wonderful. Notes of barnyard and musty straw and from my experience, the smelly cigars are normally the most flavorful. I used a V cutter for this stick and before I get into the flavor, I will say the draw is absolute perfection. I am always excited when I clip a cigar and the draw is impeccable. There is nothing more disappointing than having a tight draw on a cigar. It just ruins the experience.

Now to the flavor. In the 1st third, it starts off with notes of a Chocolate malt milkshake. Definitely not something I was expecting to taste. Underneath that, some slight notes of figs and nutmeg. As I roll into the 2nd third, the nutmeg starts to die off and there are notes of fresh wet leather and some slight notes of fresh cedar chips that come into the mix. There is also a slight creaminess that comes into play which just creates a succulent flavor profile. Now as I roll into the final third, there is a slight note of anise that comes into play. It is very mild, thankfully. The cedar goes from fresh to old and the leather stands bold. Half way through the final third, a slight note of coconut appears and rides with the creamy leather and old cedar to the nub.

What a absolute fantastic cigar. Waaaaaaaaay better than the 1st edition. The entire experience has been wonderful and during the writing of this review, I purchased a box of 5.5 X 52.
