Believe it or not, in all of my years of smoking cigars, I’ve never once had an Ashton. Nor any of it affiliate brands. Today however I tap into the San Cristobal Revelation by Ashton. I know it’s strange to go with a brand that’s made by Ashton first rather than trying and Ashton itself but as I was walking through my local cigar shop, this cigar just stood out to me. The cigar was also named in cigar aficionado magazine top 25 in 2014 with a rank of 18.

this particular Cigar I will admit, I bought with my eyes. The vibrant colors and the embossed gold foil on the banding screamed excellence and sophistication. I do try to warn people about purchasing Cigars because of the way they look but sometimes we all fall prey to it. Today was my day. But I will say this, I am glad that I let my eyes choose for me because this cigar has already started out to become one pleasureful little stick.

The aroma of the cigar once it was pulled from its plastic sheath was stunning. And earthy aroma with some nut and straw notes made it quite pleasurable it has a wonderful medium dark brown chocolate Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper with a fantastic blend of Nicaraguan long fillers. I am a big fan of Sumatra wrappers and as anybody who’s ever read my reviews or knows me personally, you know that I love Nicaraguan tobacco‘s so this is most assuredly proving to be a good purchase.

Because of how big it is, I used the V cutter. On the cold draw, that earthy/straw aroma is very present in the flavor. It has a slight bit of a musty notes as well. As we light it and get into the first third, you were immediately hit with that earthy straw with some slight flavor of cedar. There is a mild red pepper spice in the background. Not enough to ruin the cigar but just enough to add a touch of spice which is very pleasurable. As we get halfway through the first third that spice however starts to die out. Rolling into the second third, there is a slight amount of citrus that appears. due to the fact it is very mild, I can’t tell what kind of citrus it is. But as we blaze through the second third, a wonderful note of sweet cocoa appears. Normally I would say sweet cocoa and citrus do not go together, but they do. These flavors continue through the final third with a Cigar getting a touch Bolder. All in all, I am very happy that I let my eyes choose for me this time. Because of this cigar, I will be trying the other cigars in this lineup.
