Padron! A titan in the cigar industry. when the Padron name is mentioned, all tend to listen. Why?, Because they produce some of the best cigars in the world. Absolutely astonishing nicaraguan and Payroll Chase. Anything from the 50th anniversary Cigar to the 1926 series all the way down to the bottom of the food chain.

This 50th anniversary Cigar however is a limited production and registered humidor release. It is a celebration of the 50th anniversary with an offering of 1000 humidors containing 50 numbered Cigars. The initial release was in 2014 offered in red sequential serial numbers corresponding to each humidor. I just happen to have had the pleasure of receiving the cigar by someone who purchased the original. It is none other than my cigar aficionado friend, Mr. K.

At my weekly cigar meeting with Mr. K, this beautiful treasure was given to me. The Padron 50th anniversary serial number 267528, size 6.5x52. The Padron family has an uncompromising commitment to taste and quality. They limit production every year so it’s quality over quantity. This amazing box pressed cigars started off with a 10 year aged tobacco. It is very hard to find any specs whatsoever on the tobacco used in the making of these cigars because the Padron family like the Arturo Fuente family are very protective over their blends.

What I can tell you is It has a very mild aroma, so mild I had to sniff it multiple times before I lit it which wasn’t a bad thing. The stogie is Nicaraguan through and through. The wrapper binder and filler and all the tobacco‘s are Nicaraguan. In the first third, The natural tobacco sweetness and cedar was at the front on my pallet. A good helping of almonds was in the secondary position. But in the second third a slight grassy and deep earthy flower flavor moved into the primary position and a slight spice started to develop in the secondary. The almond is still there but it’s very faint at this point. In the final third the earthy notes started to dominate the entire flavor profile. The draw was continuously smooth throughout the entire cigar. It was never harsh The entire way through the stick and I had to pull out my cigar dagger because it was smoked so far down it started to burn my fingers. I took it all the way down to about a half an inch before it burnt my lips.  Absolutely fantastic specimen.
