I pride myself as a “Cigar Journalist” to rate and review any cigar. Some are very difficult to get through. Now, I have only had one Macanudo cigar in my life before today and it was not the greatest. When I say, “not the greatest “ I mean it fucking blew ass. I hate infused cigars, but, I try and review and rate everything. I swore I would never smoke one again. The M by Macanudo was a complete let down. That being said, I was hesitant on trying the 1968 but it was given to my cigar show by a close cigar friend and I trust him, kinda.

When I first looked at this cigar, it was not something that really stood out to me as “perfection “, but it wasn’t ugly by any stretch. The wrapper is a nice light chocolate brown Honduras with a Connecticut Habano binder and tobacco from Nicaragua, Esteli. I feel like I’m becoming more tolerate of cigars even though they have Honduran tobacco in them, as long as it’s filled with nicaraguan tobacco or some other sort of tobacco, And many of my reviews I have stated that I am not a fan of Honduran tobacco. But a little bit and a wonderful blend makes a very satisfying cigar.

Now, On the cold draw I can definitely taste notes of leather and cocoa. But as I light up in the first third the leather really stood out in the front while the Coco was more in the back of the pallet and there was a small hint of spice. Maybe black pepper, I wasn’t able to tell. In the second third however, the Coco Notes become predominately thicker and some coffee notes started to appear. The space really died out. But as I rolled into the final third the cigar remained the same with the leather dying off but everything else was in the same position as the second third. It wasn’t the most complex cigar I’ve ever tasted but it was tasty nonetheless. A huge step up from my previous experience with Macanudo. This is what I would classify is a great golf stick. Case in point, I purchased a box of these to have specifically when I go out to do an activity.
