Mercer County, Pennsylvania is not really known for its culture. When I say culture, I mean the artsy things. Such as: Gourmet coffee shops, small clothing boutiques, cigar lounges, things like that. However, now that we are in the year 2021, these things are starting to pop up more often. The one thing my wife and I miss about living in Las Vegas, NV is the culture and fun activities. I just did a review on a fantastic cigar lounge in Sharon, PA and now, I will do this review on a quaint little lounge that is buried deep in Amish country, Brothers and Sisters of the Leaf, I present, Boxcar Cigar in Volant, Pennsylvania.

Boxcar Cigar is the brain child of a man by the name of, Bobby Palko. Now, having been there many times, I will say it is something interesting to say the least. For those of you who have never been there, you have to go through a town named, New Wilmington, PA. Then you will enter a very very small shopping town named volant. No matter which way you come in, you will be going down a very steep hill. Volant, PA is exactly what I said. It is one street that has small boutique shops. Everything from kitchen stores to wineries and of course, a cigar shop.

The fascinating part of this place, is from the outside, there are 4 old train cars left on the tracks from way back in the day. Now, these cars have been there since I was a kid, so…. A long time. As you walk up the stairs, you will enter the 1st car. As you walk in the door there is a beautiful aroma of tobacco and cedar. It has a very nice “old” floor and immediately upon entry, one cant help but see the walk-in humidor to the right. If I had to guess the size, I’d say if was roughly 12ft X 12st. Its not huge and there is not a massive selection but most people will find what they are looking for.

As you exit the humidor, you are greeted with the lounge employee, Ben, who is one of the most down to earth an knowledgeable people you would ever hope to come across. As you look to the opposite side of the checkout counter, on the wall is a rack of very nice looking pipes and a display of Zippo lighters. I've never smoked a pipe but if I ever decide to start, I will definitely be buying one from there. There is also a display of Yankee Creek Knives which are hand made and of great quality. They are definitely worth the money. Now we move past that and there is the “lounge” area. I put the Lounge in quotes because, there is really know divide. It all just flows together. He does have 4-6 leather chairs, side tables and ashtrays and a TV on the wall. The cool part is, under the TV is a nice wood stand with a mixture of different alcoholic beverages from Derailed Distillery, which is also owned by bobby and is in the 3rd train car.

I have personally tried some of the beverages and although I don’t really drink anymore, they were pretty tasty. The 2nd train car is now a “Overflow” lounge and the Caboose to my knowledge does not have anything in it. All-in-all, it is a very nice lounge. Small and intimate. The selection of cigars is small but the atmosphere is wonderful and the company is great for conversation. I highly recommend you try it out.
