So… To be 100% honest, I have never, in all my years of smoking cigars, I have never had the pleasure of enjoying an AVO. So this being the first, I am really excited. I have heard many wonderful things about AVO as a whole and judging by the looks of this stick, it should be pretty damn tasty.

From what I was able to find, this cigar was given a rating of 93 and ranked 16 by Cigar Aficionado Magazine in 2015. Now, just so everyone understands, I do not do any research on these cigars until after I smoke mine. I do not want to sway myself by what I read. Also, I do not put a a lot of stock in what the magazine says. I review for myself and to my standards, I could care less what their reviewers say. That being said, I will continue…

This cigar has an Ecuadorian wrapper, a Dominican binder and long fillers from Nicaragua, Peru and the Dominican Republic. I absolutely love the box press and the aroma is quite pleasant with notes of mint and nutmeg. It is making me salivate as we speak. The draw is superbly clear and pronounced with the same notes as the aroma with a slight addition of raisins.

As I light the cigar, it lights well and stays pretty straight. Sometimes I've had cigars that get the burn line unbalanced that needs correcting latter on. It happens, nothing is perfect. The 1st third has very pronounced notes of leather and a medium bold cocoa and a hint of black pepper. About half way into the first third, the pepper starts to die off which is slightly annoying because it was a nice note to have in the mix. As I roll into the 2nd third, the leather turns into a creamy leather and it really stands out and above the rest. The cocoa becomes very subtle and there is a very mild hint of figs. The final third stands the same, just a little bit stronger. All in all, damn good stick and I will be buying a box. It is what I would call, “a great every day smoke”.
